Sri Lankan Civil War
The Sri Lankan civil war of 1983 was the bloodiest war Sri Lanka has ever participated in. Over 85,000 people were killed in the conflict between the Sinhalese and Tamil Tigers for control over the country. The war finally ended on the 16th of May 2009 when president Mahinda Rajapaksa took control of the Sri Lanka and declared the war over. The Tamil Tigers admitted defeat on the 17th and was killed by government officials on the 19th of May 2009. The war caused havoc and destroyed and flattened whole cities.
